Harald Björk was born and raised in a suburb of Stockholm, surrounded by nature, although the basements of the houses told a different story, harbouring a wealth of budding producers and bands. He first began to make a production name for himself with early releases on Traum Schallplatten, Apparillo Music and Deep Focus, before taking the brave decision to go it alone by founding his own Kranglan Broadcast label in 2009. Last year saw the release of his debut album ‘Bigfield’ on his own imprint, a totally autonomous, self-driven endeavour that wears its heart on its sleeve. Harald Björk’s music is a naive and emotional form of melodic minimal techno with a melancholic Scandinavian touch.

His hardware-only live set hooks a host of machines up to the mixer in preparation for a journey through melancholic melodics, exploding breaks and motoric beats, with Harald as jockey at the helm. His parallel DJ career meanwhile was first embarked upon as a teenager, flirting with hip hop in the days before techno stardom beckoned, eventually evolving towards the modern variant of music-for-dancing-to that we see today. From his Stockholm base, Harald continues to perform live and DJ sets across Europe in support of his ‘Bigfield’ album, and is currently putting together a remix package for release later this year. The latest offering from his Kranglan Broadcast label is a sterling collection of remixes of the Swedish sister-duo Piroth at the hands of Nathan Fake, Popnoname, Studio Barnhus, Clara Moto, and of course, Harald himself.

Harald Björk nació y creció en un suburbio de Estocolmo rodeado por un montón de productores musicales, bandas de garaje y entornos naturales. Su interés por las grabaciones comenzó muy pronto cuando un día encontró la vieja grabadora de casettes de su padre. Pronto se convirtió en su patio de recreo dónde pudo grabar diversos sonidos, a su banda de punk y hacer remezclas.

Cómo adolescente Harald se interesó por pinchar discos, compró sus primeros platos y comenzó a pinchar Hip-Hop. En la escuela superior de secundaria entró en contacto con la escena techno de Suecia y se reencontró con su antiguo amigo de la infancia Petter Nordkvist al tiempo que conoció a Özgur Can. Después de un año creativo en Berlín, publicaciones en Deep Focus, Traum Schallplatten, Apparillo Music y tres años en la universidad, Harald está viviendo de nuevo en Estocolmo.

Harald ha publicado recientemente su segundo EP, Sunsets en Apparillo Music. Y en este año 2009 está totalmente centrado en sus actuaciones en directo así como en la creación de su propio sello discográfico Kranglan Broadcast que se estrenará con una primera publicación prevista para Noviembre.

La música de Harald Björk es ingenua y emotiva, una especie de minimal techno melódico con toques de melancolía escandinava. Su música puede ser descrita cómo una mezcla entre los sonidos más juguetones de Aphex Twin y la electrónica melódica impregnada de pop de los primeros Röyksopp. Todo ello aderezado con beats de minimal procedentes de Berlín y Colonia.

Sus discos han sido tocados por Dj’s cómo James Holden, Sven Väth, Miss Kittin y Four Tet entre otros.

En sus actuaciones en directo, Harald usa un ordenador lleno de sentimientos troceados y un montón de máquinas analógicas y controllers para construir atmósferas de amor ingenuo y gritos frustrados. Sus sesiones te sumergen en un viaje de melancólicas y melódicas aventuras que ascienden hasta explosivos breaks mientras son sostenidas por beats motorizados.
